Rev. Elisabeth Hartwell
Trinity Presbyterian Church in Berwyn has welcomed Rev. Elisabeth Hartwell as their new pastor. She came from First Presbyterian Church in West Chester, PA, where she served for seven years as Associate Pastor for Pastoral Care. In her new position, she serves as the solo pastor to the congregation of 220 members, and also as head of staff.
Rev. Hartwell graduated from Mercyhurst University in Erie, PA with a B.A. in psychology and received her Master of Divinity from Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, VA. She did further studies in Clinical Pastoral Education at the West Virginia University Hospitals in Morgantown, WV, where she completed a chaplain residency. Although her original intent was to be a hospital or hospice chaplain, she ultimately determined she wanted to carry out her ministry in a congregational setting, where she would have the ability to develop long-term relationships with those she serves. She was ordained in October, 2006.
Of her role as a pastor, Rev. Hartwell says, “I love preaching God’s Word, and being with my congregation through some of the most significant times in their lives. It’s a privilege to walk with them in faith.”
Rev. Hartwell is married to Tom, an elementary school music teacher in the Coatesville Area School District. They have a four-year-old daughter, Abby. Elisabeth and Tom celebrated the birth of their son James Russell on June 23, 2015. Rev. Hartwell enjoys exercising, gardening, and spending time with family.
Trinity is very happy that Rev. Hartwell’s faith journey called her to Trinity to serve as their 19th pastor, continuing a long history of 150 years of ministry and mission to the Berwyn community, the local area, and beyond.
