WHAT ARE WE CURRENTLY DOING TO CARRY OUT THE BIBLICAL AND CONSTITUTIONAL PURPOSES OF THE CHURCH? Trinity has a long history of outreach to the local, regional, national, and global communities as we strive to promote social justice and exhibit the kingdom of God on earth. Caring Cupboard, the church run food bank, provides food to approximately 25 families on a monthly basis. A group of over 24 volunteers serves as coordinators, shoppers, packers, and deliverers. In 2010, $2,100 was contributed to local organizations, $4,000 to Mission Honduras, and $8,000 to Mission Treasury Service. Funds came from pledge giving, the Acme Gift Card program, and a golf fundraiser. Additionally, over $3,300 was received in One Great Hour of Sharing, Peacemaking and Christmas Joy special offerings, raising both money and awareness for mission needs in our country and around the world. Mission Honduras has been an ongoing major focus of mission work for years. Trinity partners with Grace Presbyterian Church in Richmond, VA to support several Presbyterian churches in the remote, very poor region of southwest Honduras. A faithful group of four or more from Trinity have made annual trips in January to provide hands-on ministry. Donations from the General Fund as well as individuals have provided funding for quarterly visits by a medical team. More recently, the need for potable water has been addressed. A consultant from Water Mission International has worked with KHISH (Kurtz Humanitarian Initiative for Southern Honduras) to investigate ways Trinity can help to provide “liquid hope.” With a portion of a generous bequest and matching funds from the 150th Anniversary Campaign, money will be available to maintain an ongoing presence in southwest Honduras. Locally, regionally, nationally, and globally, mission remains an important part of Trinity’s call to reach out with the love of Christ to all the ends of the earth. The 150th Anniversary Committee mission statement speaks to the fellowship and nurture of the people of Trinity, the community and the world with these words: To commemorate Trinity Presbyterian Church’s 150th anniversary and to celebrate our being a family community of faith and fellowship; To rededicate our presence in the village of Berwyn by enhancing our facilities and our outreach; and To expand Trinity’s integral role in Christ’s mission throughout the world.
